Hi Everyone
Hope you're all well!
I'm doing a lot better! Like 95% better!!! Happy Dance!
I promise to be around soon!

I have something to share with you and I think it's important.
I've written on here before, in the last 6 months, that I'm sick with the "stomach flew". Well, I will be honest, I haven't been feeling 100% since October 2016. Now of course, I haven't been sick everyday, but I have felt "off" a lot!

When this last spell started to happen, I thought, I am going to check what I have been eating. As you know, since the middle of September of last year, I started the gym and have been trying to eat more healthy. Not that I was ever a junk food addict, but, just to introduce more nutritious items.

Looking at my protein bars, cereal, teas, coffee and even sushi, I have found one of the main ingredient to be "Chicory Root". When you start looking, you won't believe the food that it's in.

So, off to the internet I went!
What I discovered...... many people are having the same reactions as me!
Gas, belly bloat, abdominal pain, gut rumbling, etc.

Another thing I discovered, if you see this ingredient, "Inulin", it is derived from Chicory Root!

So please watch yourselves around Chicory Root and Inulin!
Not saying it's bad! Just saying, you might go through what I did!!!

I will leave you with something I'm working on 😀
Big Hugs 😃

  1. Glad you figured out your trigger! I'm not sure if I have a sensitivity to chickory, I'd have to check the ingredients of the foods that still mysteriously irritate me. I'm on the FODMAP diet and it suggests getting rid of onion completely (use chives as a substitute). Variations of onion are in everything. Onion powder is included in almost every savory store bought product especially gluten free vegan products. >·< Sometimes it feels like you just can't win.

  2. I'm sorry you are experiencing these problems with chicory root. I consume it and dandelion root with no difficulty, but am seriously allergic to nightshade vegetables: tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes... Try being a vegetarian and skipping all of those! I'm so glad to hear you are on the mend and glad you are getting to the "root" of it. ;)

  3. Never heard that about chicory root before! I didn't realize it was added to so many foods. I remember that it was used as a coffee substitute and that's about it! Glad you're feeling better and hope your snow doesn't hang around too long! Hugs from me and the Kits! Oh is that painting a crow in a snow storm? HaHaha! Just kidden! Take care!

  4. Thank you so much for letting us know what you learned Stacy! I will definitely be checking for chicory root/inulin. It doesn't hurt to watch for this and may be helpful!

  5. I'm glad you know what's bothering your tummy. You already know my gut and I are always very conscious of what I put in my mouth. It's terrible to go around feeling like one is going to burst all the time. I hope you are back at 100% soon, my dear Stacy.

  6. Glad you got to the bottom of it.

I've had to try and figure out what is causing me problems at times, too. Ugh.

  11. Will be checking for those ingredients in future...never knew it was a possible issue. What with all the "healthier" eating lobbies I just struggle to find anything with sugar instead of artificial sweetners...which make me ill *Hugs* :D XXX

  12. It is amazing how certain foods can affect us. I have horrible reactions of onions and garlic. Such torture when I go out to eat! Now that you have identified that ingredient you can avoid it for a happier tummy. :)

  13. Never would've thought about checking ingredients. Thanks for the tip. Glad you are feeling better now that you know the culprit.
That is shaping up to be an awesome painting!

  14. Good to know! I check ingredients all the time, but I didn't know that chicory root could produce those kinds of symptoms.
Hope you are feeling way better now!

  15. Yuck, I wouldn't want any of that. I eat little of prepared foods, making all mine from scratch.Today I'm eating brownies and having a hard time stopping.

  16. Hey sweet girl, I'm glad to hear that you have found what is irritating your system. I came to a similar conclusion with the amount of magnesium I consume to keep from having muscle cramps. It keeps my bowels in a uproar all the time. Sheesh. Good thing we try to keep ourselves going huh? Love you, Oma Linda

  20. 95% better ... that is good.

It's true, we have to be careful with what we eat. What suits one person doesn't necessarily suit another. The internet is so good for further research on things.

Happy weekend, and hope you will soon be 100%

    All the best Jan

  21. Wishing you good health, dearest Stacy. We always have to be conscious of ingredients in the food we consume, thanks for this info about chicory.

Love the image on your header; the crow posing with open "arms" and head tilting backwards. I see a combination of growth and confidence in this piece. Brilliant work!

  23. I hope you will soon be feeling 100%. Yes, many foods can cause havoc with our bodies, I am glad you found a connection.

  24. Thank you for all you comments and love little sister. I know you are always close in spirit as I am with you. Very interesting about the chicory. A lot of people including the people making our food, think if it is natural it is OK for every one. As you well know, not true. I am going to check my ingredients for that. Now on to your art. OMG!!! As I scrolled down and saw this new piece all that came to me was the frozen of The Game of Thrones. I can't wait to see how you finish this. Love and hugs.N

  25. I haven't been feeling too well myself of late. Maybe it's like you mentioned and it's something I am eating. Well, hope you feel better and paint lots more of your wonderful paintings.

  28. Chicory root? Hmm... I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for that. I hope you're feeling all better!

  30. Since I'm working backward on your posts to catch up, I know how your painting turned out. It's amazing to see how much came out of the simple background. I've become very distrustful about just what is going into our food. Labels, labels, labels! Now I make a lot of things from scratch. Tale care <3 !
